I recently submitted my film to the Hollywood Independent International Documentary Award thinking that Americans should understand the whaling problem, and my film was selected. I was able go to the awards ceremony because it was scheduled right after the screening of my film at the theater in Los Angeles. When I got there, the venue was right across the road from the headquarters of my previous job Paramount Pictures! Last time I visited there was when the president of Paramount gave me a tour of the studios And then the building where the film festival awards ceremony was held was the Chaplin Theater which was built by Charles Chaplin whom I admired when I was a child. How often does a double coincidence like this happen? I was nicely surprised. The speech I made at award ceremony is as follows:
"The movie "The Cove" that won the Academy Award seven years ago was a documentary full of lies told from a one-sided perspective. My movie tells the story from both sides. Due to unilateral propaganda from the West, Japanese whaling has been touted as a cruel act. But even when this happens, because the Japanese are taught to endure difficulties, they often do not speak out against such matters. Please take a look at my film and know the truth. War and whales have a very deep relationship.” Everyone listened to my speech seriously.

Hollywood Indipendent Internatilnal Documentary Awardの授賞式の日程がドンピシャでロサンゼルスの劇場上映直後にあったので授賞式に行ってきました。するとなんと、その場所は、前職のパラマウントピクチャーの本社の道を挟んだ目の前のビル（真ん前）でした！ 前回、パラマウントスタジオを訪ねたときは、社長にスタジオツアーを招待してもらったときぶりです。
そして、映画祭の授賞式が行われましたそのビルがまたなんと、私が子供の頃、憧れていたチャップリンが建てたチャップリンシアターで行われたのでした。
こんなWの偶然あるんかい？？びっくりです。

この授賞式の時、コメントしたのは、以下です。
『「ザ・コーヴ」という７年前にアカデミー賞を受賞した映画は一方的な視点で嘘だらけの映画でした。私の映画は両サイドを撮っています。これまで欧米から一方的なプロパガンダで捕鯨が残虐のように伝えられて来ましたが、日本人は辛いことがあっても、耐えてしまい発言しないことが多いです。ぜひ、本作をご覧になって真実を知ってください。戦争と鯨はとても深い関係があります。』 皆さん、真剣に聞いてくれていました。
